The United States Embassy in Manila on Wednesday said that they are working closely with the Philippine authorities in bringing the perpetrators to the killing of US Marine George Anikow to justice, but clarified that US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents will not interfere in the investigation.

In a text message, Bettina Malone, US Embassy spokesman, said that the embassy is not bringing the FBI in the country to investigate the killing of Anikow.

“The Philippine National Police is investigating the crime, in accordance with the Philippine law. Embassy law enforcement officials are working in close cooperation with the local authorities, and will continue to assist them as their investigation proceeds,” she said.

Days after Anikow was killed in a brutal stabbing incident in a gated subdivision in Makati City, reports came out that FBI agents will be arriving in the country to aid in the investigation of the case.

Anikow was the husband of a reportedly US Embassy consul in Manila. Aside from his wife, his death left behind three children.

The US embassy has already condemned what they called a “violent attack” against an active serviceman of the US Marine. He is currently in the country as a member of the US mission to the Philippines.

“The embassy condemns the violent attack that led to the led to the death of a member of the US Mission to the Philippines on November 24 in Makati. We mourn the loss of a beloved member of our embassy family,” the embassy had said.

“We appreciate the close cooperation of the Philippine authorities in a careful and speedy investigation and prosecution of this crime, so that the perpetrators may be brought to justice,” it added.
