CONSTRUCTION OF PWD-FRIENDLY PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS SET
In line with the observance of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) on Monday, PWD-friendly pedestrian crossings will be set up in two of the cities in Metro Manila that have the most number of PWDs.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is set to install PWD-accessible pedestrian crossings at the corner of Aurora Boulevard corner JP Rizal St. in Project 4, and another near Isetann mall, both in Cubao, Quezon City; and at Santolan Road corner Marcos Highway in Pasig City. NAVOTAS MAYOR’S TEAM AND PDEA RAID TWO DRUG DENS
A joint team of the Navotas City Government and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted over the weekend lightning raids of at least two suspected drug dens in the coastal city resulting in the arrest of a suspected drug pusher and drug user and the confiscation of sachets of shabu. Mayor John Rey Tiangco of Navotas, who personally led the anti-illegal drugs operations, identified the arrested suspects as one alias Boy, 25, of Navotas Fishport Complex, Brgy. North Bay, Boulevard North; and Conrad Lopez, 61, of Brgy. Daang Hari. JING VILLAMENTE

ROXAS LAUDS ARREST OF SUSPECT IN CALOOCAN GIRLS’ MURDER
Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd, on Sunday, lauded the Philippine National Police (PNP) for the immediate arrest of the suspect in the gruesome murder of two young girls in Caloocan City on Monday and said that it shows that swift justice is possible in the country, especially for poor victims. “As I said last Thursday, our PNP will leave no stone unturned in the manhunt against the suspect and will bring him to justice as soon as possible. This is the dedication and excellent intelligence work that makes us all proud of our police officers who deserve our highest commendation,” Roxas said. JING VILLAMENTE

PASAY CITY ALARMED OVER REPORT ON AIDS RISK
ALARMED by a recent report that Pasay City is one of the six cities in the country most at risk for the spread of the Acquired Immuno-Deficiency Virus (AIDS), the city government has sought to strengthen its AIDS Prevention and Control Ordinance. Mayor Antonino Calixto of Pasay said that there is a need to amend City Ordinance No. 2341-02 to strengthen the monitoring and implementation of the law as well as to allocate funds for its effective monitoring and implementation. QC CREATES PROTECTION CENTER FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN
Mayor Herbert Bautista of Quezon City (QC) has signed into law an ordinance creating a “one-stop-shop” protection center that will provide medical, psychological, police and legal assistance to victims and survivors of gender-based violence and abuse in the city, to include, among others, women, children and LGBTs (lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders). The center will be set up in a space provided by the city government at the QC General Hospital. JING VILLAMENTE
