Airport lavishes warmth on tourists

Arriving passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) were donned with leis and serenaded by a choir as part of the extended effort to accord tourists, both foreign and local, a warm reception at the NAIA terminals.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) also lighted up with Christmas displays the four terminals of the NAIA signaling the start of the Christmas season.

“In keeping with Christmas tradition, arriving passengers will be greeted with Christmas melodies as a warm welcome,” airport general manager Jose Angel Honrado said.

The Airport Reception and Information Section (ARIS) of the Department of Tourism (DOT) have also provided souvenir items distributed to the passengers as part of the DOT’s project called “Arrivals. More fun in the Philippines” that will highlight the DOT’s campaign “It’s more fun in the Philippines.”

The tourism’s ARIS had also arranged a rondalla band at the terminal’s lobby to entertain incoming passengers.

The two agencies have partnered with Smart Communications to tap a wider segment of the market.

Honrado said that they recycled Christmas displays have been used to minimize expenses. The costs of the displays were about half of what have been spent from the previous years.

He said that since October the MIAA spent only P350 to 400 thousand for the repair of Christmas displays. These included the bulb of the Christmas trees in all airport terminals and the 25-foot Christmas tree adorned with hundreds of white and red lanterns with multicolored lights.
Though we already used it last year, it needs repair and since October all of lightings.
