Total truck ban in effect along Edsa
THERE are no more window hours for trucks passing through Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (Edsa).
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday started the implementation of the truck ban, which will be enforced 24 hours a day from Mondays to Sundays, along Edsa from Magallanes Interchange to Trinoma.
“We no longer have window hours for trucks passing through Edsa. Trucks with a gross weight of 4,500 kilograms and above are not allowed in any portion of Edsa, 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said.
Tolentino explained that the Edsa total truck ban is part of the modified truck ban scheme that has been approved for implementation by the Special Traffic Committee (STC) of the Metro Manila Council on December 3.
Under the old truck ban policy of the MMDA, trucks are allowed to pass through Edsa from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
On December 3, the STC, chaired by Mayor Herbert Bautista of Quezon City, approved the implementation of the modified truck ban in Metro Manila from December 7 to January 6, 2013.
Trucks carrying perishable goods such as agricultural products are still exempted from the modified truck ban.
