IN a move to decongest the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) plies out today its new bus segregation scheme.
MMDA Chairman Francis To-lentino said that the new bus segregation scheme would also reduce travel time and orderly loading and unloading of passengers along the 23.8-kilometer long EDSA. The MMDA chief will spearhead the launch of the new scheme at the Magallanes-EDSA loading bay in Makati City.
The new scheme will be finally launched after the MMDA cleared all impediments including oppositions from bus operators.
He said that MMDA has also started its information campaign on the scheme to educate the public and prevent confusion among passengers and bus drivers. To delineate various routes, the MMDA put stickers on the public utility buses (PUB).
Under the scheme, Alabang-bound PUBs will have to use the Bus stop A, while Baclaran-bound PUBs will make use of the Bus stop B.
However, the MMDA has designated Bus stop C or “all stop buses,” which will be used to accommodate short distance travels. According to MMDA, over 3, 600 city buses plied EDSA on a daily basis, while another 7,368 provincial buses whose companies operate terminals in the metropolis also used the same highway.
