Storm poised to bring rains on Christmas eve
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) yesterday said that good weather will continue to prevail in most parts the country but a weather disturbance might be expected to hit the country on the Christmas eve.
Pagasa forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said that a cluster of clouds that might become a low pressure area (LPA) has been spotted and is expected to enter early next week.
Once the LPA becomes a cyclone, Aurelio said it will be named “Quinta”, the 17th tropical cyclone to enter the country this year.
Aurelio said that the northeast monsoon is inducing light to moderate rains in Luzon areas.
The rest of the country including Metro Manila, Aurelio added, will have a mixture of sunny to cloudy skies with possible light passing rains mostly in the afternoon or evening due to localized convection.
In its advisory, Pagasa said that Visayas and the regions of Caraga and Davao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers or thunderstorms while Cagayan Valley, Bicol Region and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon will experience cloudy skies with light rains.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over the Northern and Eastern Luzon and Eastern Visayas. The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast with slight to moderate seas.
Strong to gale-force winds associated with the surge of the northeast monsoon may affect the seaboards of Northern Luzon and eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon and the Eastern Visayas, Pagasa said.
