Brewing storm threatens Mindanao
PHILIPPINE Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported on Monday that the Low Pressure Area spotted off Mindanao is slowly developing into a storm and will continue to batter Mindanao with rains.
Pagasa said that the possible upcoming storm will affect mostly the Soccsksargen area. Soccsksargen is composed of the provinces of South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Saranggani and General Santos City.
It will also affect the Davao region and would be almost stationary in Mindanao.
The LPA was last located 410 kilometers southeast of Mindanao and carries moderate to heavy rains which the weather bureau said could bring possible flashfloods and landslides in the area.
Pagasa is closely monitoring the LPA and said that its chances of becoming a tropical depression is very low despite Japan Meteorological Agency’s advisory that says that the LPA is already at tropical depression.
If the LPA insptensifies within 24 hours, it will be called “Bising.”
Moderate to heavy rain will continue over most of Mindanao. Pagasa said that Leyte province, Bicol region and parts of Cagayan Valley will continue to experience cloudy skies.
Manila, meanwhile, which experienced the hottest day since the start of the year, will have partly cloudy skies with high probability of isolated rains and thunderstorms.
