NPA COMMANDER GIVES SELF UP
DAVAO CITY: The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Saturday claimed that Ricardo Lucnod, a

local commander of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Davao Oriental province, had surrendered to the authorities. Lucnod turned himself in without firearms to Mayor Michelle Rabat of Mati town on Thursday, according to Col. Rey Leonardo Guerrero, a provincial army commander. XINHUA

POLICE SEIZE WEAPONS CACHE AT MINING SITE
Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) seized a huge cache of firearms and ammunition, as well as arrested at least 10 people, after raiding a mining site in a remote village in Zamboanga del Sur province on Friday, police reports said on Saturday. Members of CIDG Region IX swooped down on at least ten huts at a mining site in the Onaw-Onaw and Tinago area in Depore village, Bayog town. The raid was conducted after crimes involving firearms were recorded.

BLAZE HITS VILLAGE, LEAVES 50 HOMELESS
BAGUIO CITY: A fire reportedly caused by faulty electrical wiring hit Marcoville village in Baguio City on Friday, turning at least seven houses into ashes and leaving 50 people homeless. Joe Fernand Bangyod, Baguio fire marshall, said that the fire started at the house of a 79-year-old woman at about 11:15 a.m. and quickly spread. The fire was officially extinguished at 12:30 p.m. The old woman’s daughter was hurt in the blaze.
