Seven councilors from Aliaga town in Nueva Ecija province are questioning where a P10-million aid of Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago went but their mayor, Marcial Vargas and his wife, Vice
Mayor Elizabeth Vargas could not explain where the money was spent.
In their resolution signed on October 15, municipal councilors Cesar Cajucom, Juanita de Leon, Juanito Martin, Alberto Bumanlag, Lourdes Celestino, Alnario Bernabe and Melody Vegiga, said that Santiago has given the municipality such amount to start the Farmers Business Resource Cooperative that up to now has yet to be formed nor a land was bought for that purpose.
They added that they are growing apprehensive that the land purchased for the cooperative has been already transferred in the name of the vice mayor.
The councilors also disclosed that a number of anomalies are beginning to surface after the Vargases ruled their town for two decades.
They also called on the Commission on Audit’s intervention to determine the unliquidated expenses of the Vargas spouses in vehicle, gasoline, equipment and other purchases done in haste.
The seven Aliaga municipal councilors have already slapped the Vargas couple with criminal and administrative charges before the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of the Interior and Local Goverment for their failure to implement the Salary Grade of the municipal workers to a First Class Municipality as ordered by the Department of Budget and Management.
