WEST TALAONGAN, Cavinti, Laguna: Operating troops of 1st Infantry Battalion, 2nd infantry Division of the Philippine Army recovered a cache of high-powered firearms and assorted war materials at Brgy Cagsiay 3, Mauban, Quezon.

The troops found an M14 rifle, three M16 rifles, an ammunition magazine for M16 rifle, a piece of detonating cord, 10 pieces of blasting caps with cords already attached, a sniper scope, a red dot system sniper scope, a jungle pack, two ammunition bandoliers, an Icom radio, 37 rounds of M16 ammunition, a homemade claymore mine, medical items, assorted personal belongings and subversive documents.

The commanding officer of 1st Infantry Battalion Lt Col Jose Augusto Villareal reported to Col Ivan Samarita, 202nd Brigade Commander, that the recovery of firearms and war materials was a result of information given by CPP-NPA personalities apprehended earlier and were pinpointed by the residents of Brgy Cagsiay 3, Mauban, Quezon.

Villareal said that some members of NPA left the firearms and materials due to hardships, lack of leadership and demoralization among their ranks.

He added that recovery of firearms and war materials will surely diminish extortion and terrorism activities of CPP-NPA in Southern Tagalog.
