Ultimatum unleashed on Cordillera ‘jueteng’ operators

CAMP BADO DANGWA, Benguet: Jueteng operation should cease to operate in the Cordillera Region by the end of the month, according to Chief Supt. Benjamin Magalong over the week.

Magalong said that his office has confirmed the resumption of operations of the illegal numbers game, particularly in Baguio City and Benguet province.

“I am giving it until the end of the month, dapat wala na yan [it should be gone],” he told the members of the media as he gave this stern warning to those involved with the illegal numbers game.

He likewise said that jueteng cubradors (bet collectors) are using Meridiem Vista Corp. papeletos in the collection of bets.

They are masking their illegal operations in the guise of collecting for jai-alai, he said.

The company collected bets in Baguio City and Benguet for jai-alai games.

Mayor Greg Abalos Jr. of La Trinidad town in Benguet has earlier refused to issue a business permit to the group to operate in the municipality.

No other municipality in Benguet has granted the company a business to operate within their town.

Meanwhile, Mayor Roque Verzosa Jr. of Tagudin town in Ilocos Sur province, has declared that his town jueteng free.

“There is no jueteng in Tagudin,” Versoza stressed.

Versoza made this declaration in a press statement.
