Six projects seen to shore up Gumaca agriculture, health

GUMACA, Quezon: Six multi-million projects eyed to boost the agriculture, health, trade and transportation sectors of this town were completed and the rest are about to be implemented, Mayor Erwin Caralian of Quezon province disclosed.

The projects include the P3.8-million lying-in and birthing clinic, diversion dams for six barangays, P9-million Gumaca port, a modern slaughterhouse, construction of another Quezon Convention Center, and the first diversion road.

Caralian said that the lying-in and birthing clinic has already one satellite clinic in Villa Perez and more health centers are to be constructed.

Caralian added that since Gumaca has a 500-hectare arable land, diversion dams were already constructed in Barangays Panikihan and in Bantad—the latter funded with P7 million by the Quezon Irrigation Management.

The AA class modern slaughterhouse here is already operational and the province could now be assured of quality meat, the mayor said. Added to this is the creation of a carabao center here where carabao milk will be sourced to provide farmers additional income.

Caralian said that he is optimistic that commerce and trade will now take off here with the completion of the P9-million Gumaca port providing access for traders from the island towns of Alabat, Perez and Quezon.
