No criminal case filed vs. rich businessman who shot spouse

LEGAZPI CITY: Police has not filed criminal charges against a wealthy businessman afflicted with a rare Parkinson’s disease who shoot his wife in front of their kids at their own home on September 22.

Jeanette Orosco Chan, 40, survived a lone bullet wound that hit her in the left abdomen from a caliber. 40 used by her husband, Danny B. Chan, 50, president of Ajan Jeada Inc., a construction firm that consistently won multi-million worth of contracts from DPWH and the city government of Legazpi.

Sources close to the family said the couple had reached an amicable settlement, which includes their separation and division of properties in consideration for the non-filing of the criminal case.

According to documents obtained, the husband who serves as president of the family controlled construction company, however, had stricken out from the firm the wife’s name as corporate secretary and finance officer.

A report said that Chan arrived home early morning from Manila on that fateful day, gathered his three kids and waited for his wife to arrive after a night’s long absence. As the wife arrived, the suspect stood up and without saying a word shot her. She was rushed to the Albay Doctors Hospital here with a lone bullet wound at her right abdomen but survived the ordeal. She was discharged from the hospital a week later.

The police report said that Chan surrendered to the police, however, minus the .40 pistol used in shooting his wife. He was detained for 36 hours and released without any charges filed.
