POLICE operatives have arrested in a remote village in Aklan province, two fraternity men tagged as the suspects in the rape-slay of a 16-year-old high school student in Boracay Island about a year ago.
Chief Director Samuel Pagdilao Jr. of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) identified the arrested as Rodel Gelito and Joseph Onate, both from Malay, Aklan.
The CIDG chief said that the two suspects were arrested on Thursday last week at their respective residences base on a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Bienvenido Barrios of Regional Trail Court Branch 3 in Kalibo, Aklan.
Pagdilao said that both are members of Alpha Kappa Rho, and are facing rape with homicide charges in connection with the death of a 16-year-old girl in Bora-cay in 2011.
The CIDG chief added that fellow frat members have tagged the two as the primary in the rape and killing of the high school student.
In the reports, Senior Supt. Eddie Benigay, chief of CIDG region 6, said that the victim along with seven other teenagers joined the fraternity initiation rites that were led by the two suspects.
The victim’s decomposing body was found three days after the initiation rites inside a cave in Sitio Lapuslapos Hills in Brgy. Balabag, Boracay Island, the CIDG reports said.
