La Union top lawman gets the axe

CAMP B/GEN. OSCAR M. FLORENDO, San Fernando City, La Union: Chief Superintendent Franklin Jesus Bucayu, Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) director, announced on Tuesday that the chief of Tubao police was relieved from his post stemming from unsolved shooting incidents and other crimes that adversely affected the peace and order situation in the municipality.

Bucayu stressed that Police Senior Inspector Luis Liban is relieved as Tubao Police Station chief due to exigencies of the service. The mayor of Tubao was informed of the intention of the police action.

Police Senior Inspector Benigno Sumawang, Human Resource Development Division officer of La Union Police Provincial Office (Luppo) was designated as Officer In- Charge (OIC) since there is no qualified Police–Commissioned-Officer (PCO) assigned to act as the OIC.

La Union provincial police chief PSSupt. Ramon Purugganan said that the existing peace and order situation in Tubao necessitates the change for a new police leadership.

The said town has been adversely affected by the growing number of unsolved killings and other crime incidents in the past two months in which incumbent Mayor Dante Garcia was ambushed but was unharmed by still unknown suspects; Rodolfo Estoque, a barangay kagawad was shot to death and lawyer Lazaro Gayo, a former vice mayor and an aspiring candidate for Sangguniang Panla-lawigan was gunned down.
