Crimes by children rising in W. Visayas

ILOILO CITY: The province of Iloilo posted the most number of cases involving children in conflict with law (CICL) out of the total 50 cases in Western Visayas from January to October 2012.    


The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) report showed Iloilo with 21 cases involving boys followed by 17 in Negros Occidental province, 6 in Capiz province, 4 in Aklan province and 1 each in the provinces of Antique and Guimaras.

On the other hand DSWD reported a downtrend of abuses against young girls in the region with a total of 23 cases of abuse recorded at the DSWD Home for Girls as compared to 48 cases in 2011.

Cases of CICL, especially boys, are 7 for crimes against chastity such as rape, attempted rape and rape by carnal knowledge; 8 cases in complex offenses such as theft and carjacking, murder and illegal possession of firearms and robbery with homicide; 1 case in crime against special laws or RA 9165; 11 cases in theft and robbery, among others.
