One of two suspected robbers was killed, while a responding police officer was wounded in a shootout with members of the Imus City Police on Sunday in Buhay na Tubig, Imus City, Cavite province.
P/Chief Supt. Red Maranan in Imus City reported that the gunfight between the robbers, who were riding a motorcycle in tandem, and the police occurred at about 1:45 a.m.
He noted that members of the police were able to spot the suspects while patrolling the Buhay na Tubig area where a 24-hour convenience store and various business establishments are located.
The said establishments were the target of a series of robberies allegedly perpetrated by the yet to be identified suspects.
Maranan related that when the two fleeing suspects saw the police, one of them fired a gun, hitting a police officer on the leg.
Police then fired back at the suspects, killing one of them on the spot, while his companion fled towards a dim and unlighted area, according to Maranan.
The wounded police officer was rushed to the Lady of Pillars Hospital in Imus City for the treatment of a gunshot wound in the leg.
Police investigators recovered the .38 caliber pistol beside the slain suspect’s body and a Honda motorcycle with plate number DI-4096, which was used by the suspected robbers.
