Police arrest kidnapping suspect

Zamboanga City Police arrested the wife of a detained Abu Sayyaf leader for her alleged involvement in the 2008 kidnapping of a nurse, local authorities reported on Sunday.

Chief Insp. Elmer Acuña, Police Station 6 commander, said that the suspect, Amira Hakim alias Nah, was arrested at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday on Varela St., Brgy. Zone I.

She was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest for kidnapping and serious illegal detention issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 16 in Zamboanga City.

The police commander related that Hakim was visiting her husband, Benzar Indama, at the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center when she was arrested.

Acuña noted that Indama is a mid-level leader of the Abu Sayyaf and brother of Basilan-based Abu-Sayyaf leader Puruji Indama.

She was allegedly involved in the kidnapping of Preciosa Feliciano, a nurse at a private hospital in this city, in July 2008, he said.

She was abducted in Zamboanga and brought to Basilan Island where she had been held until her release reportedly in exchange for P2 million ransom.

The Abu Sayyaf bandits released Feliciano on November 7, 2008 in Basilan province, after four months of captivity.
