POLICEMEN in the Ilocos Region are much quicker and effective in solving crimes than their counterparts in other regions of the country, especially in Metro Manila.

Figures from the Phippine National Police-Directorate for Investigative and Detective Management (DIDM) have shown a very high crime solution efficiency rating for policemen that are in the Ilocos Region.

The PNP-DIDM data showed policemen from Ilocos Region, comprising the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan, registered a crime solution efficiency rating of 57.71 percent for January to end of June this year.

This means that from 5,673 crimes recorded in the Ilocos Region for the same period, 3,274 of them were cleared or solved by Ilocos Region policemen, the PNP-DIDM figures indicate.

Ilocos policemen were followed by their counterparts from southern Tagalog region that registered a crime solution efficiency rating of 42.78 percent or solving 4,435 out of 10,368 crimes recorded for the same period.

Policemen from Region 12 (Soccksargen) came in third place with a crime solution efficiency rating of 41.3 percent or solving 1,603 out of the 3,881 crimes that were reported in the same period.

Policemen from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao have the lowest crime solution efficiency rating of 16.48 percent or solving only 72 out of the 437 crimes reported for the same period, figures said.

The figures added that policemen from the National Capital Region has a crime solution efficiency rating of 37.74 percent solving 11,031 out of the 29,231 crimes that were reported for the same period.

Cordillera Region lawmen registered a crime solution efficiency rating of 38.53 percent; Eastern Visayas police 36.68 percent; Cagayan Valley police, 36.54 percent; Mimaropa police, 34.61 percent.

Central Visayas police has 33.91 percent crime solution efficiency rating; Davao Region police, 31.39 percent; 29.39 percent for Caraga police; Western Visayas police, 29.13 percent; and Central Luzon police, 28.38 percent.

Policemen from Bicol region scored 25.15 percent in crime solution efficiency rating; Western Mindanao Police has 22.52 percent and Northern Mindanao police has 19.36 percent crime solution efficiency rating.
