Burglars tunnel through Cavite pawnshop vault

GENERAL TRIAS, Cavite: Burglars tunneled their way from a narrow drainage and through the steel vault of a pawnshop to cart away P3-million worth of assorted pawned items and cash of a pawnshop in Brgy. Tejero.

The burglary was found out at 7 a.m. when pawnshop worker Violeta Suarez, 49, opened St. Anthony Pawnshop; she immediately reported the burglary to the local police.

Investigation conducted by the police revealed that the burglars crawled from a narrow drainage then dug up a hole across the main road and gained entrance through the pawnshop by breaking the flooring of the shop’s steel vault.

Police investigators said the culprits could be anyone of the three to four groups that operate in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) provinces.

Recovered from the comport room of the pawned shop were an acetylene tank, while two drill screws were found at the shop’s stock room.
