Zambo police force sent for retraining

The entire police force of Zamboanga City’s Labuan Police Station was relieved to undergo re-training for being remiss in their duties and responsibilities as law enforcers.

Chief Supt. Napoleon Estilles, director of Police Region Office 9, said on Sunday that the order stemmed from the failure of station commander, Chief Insp. Roberto Marcos, and his personnel to thwart the abduction of Flordeliza Ongchua, a schoolteacher.

“Had the concerned policemen only responded on time, the incident could have been prevented,” Estilles added.

The entire Labuan police command was sent to the Regional Support Training Unit in Camp Abendan, Mercedes, Zamboanga City to undergo basic training on police responsibilities.

The Labuan police stations members compose the sixth batch of police stations in the region sent for re-training for committing misdemeanors in their work.

Earlier sent for re-training were the all the personnel of the Siocon police station and Pagadian police station after some of them were proven to be involved in the use of drugs while in service.

“Sending them on re-training is not a punishment, but a strong message of reminding them to perform their given mandate as law enforcers properly,” Estilles said.

“We impose strong discipline and responsibility among our ranks, that’s why we do not exempt anyone regardless of their positions to accept the penalties of their offenses committed which sometimes cause their jobs,” he added.

Recently, Estilles also recommended the dismissal from police service of some nine erring policemen who committed culpable and criminal offenses as law enforcers.
