The victims were identified as Rebecca Eugenio, 43, and her two children, Voltaire and Rojana.
Authorities reported that the 10-wheeler truck (WNN-321), was carrying 450 cavans and traveling southbound.
As the truck was negotiating a downhill portion of the mountainside road, its brakes malfunctioned, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The truck hit the residence of the victims who died instantly.

Batang and an unidentified companion fled the scene after the accident.
The stretch of the national highway traversing Caranglan, Nueva Ecija and Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya had been tagged by motorists as the worst in the Philippines.
Aside from treacherous curves and steep inclines, the mountainside road is in constant disrepair and stalled large trucks stuck along the stretch of the highway have become a common sight for travelers.
