Kalinga’s top gun-for-hire falls in a blaze of bullets

CAMP BADO, Dangwa: Kalinga pro-vince’s Private Armed Group (PAG) leader was killed in a shootout with authorities over the weekend.


Chief Supt. Benjamin Magalong, regional director of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Cordillera identified the slain leader as Geofrey Banaya-ao.

His brother Alfred Banya-ao, also a member of the PAG was wounded in the encounter, however, he was able to elude arrest.

Magalong said that combined units of the Cordillera police were to implement warrants of arrest for the suspects when they were fired upon.

He said that the combined team led by Supt. Lambert Suerte of the Philippine National Police Special Unit of PRO-Cordillera and two teams from Kalinga police office and the Regional Public Safety Battalion, served the warrants of arrests in Mt. Balaug, Tanudan, Kalinga on December 1, 2012.

Both Geofrey and Alfred are now facing murder and frustrated murder charges with warrants of arrest issued by Judge Marcelino Wacas of Regional Trial Court Branch 26, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
