Cordillera police pledge day’s pay to Pablo victims

CAMP BADO DANGWA, Benguet: Cordillera policemen will donate a day’s pay to victims of typhoon Pablo (international codename: Bopha), which devastated Mindanao last week.

Chief Supt. Benjamin Magalong, director of Police Regional Office in Cordillera (PRO-Cor) said that the one-day salary is mandatory for all police commissioned officers.

Non-commissioned police officers and non-uniformed personnel, he said, are welcome to voluntarily donate for PRO-Cor’s efforts to pool resources for Pablo victims.

The move, he said is to observe the long time treasured “Bayanihan System” especially during times of calamity.

Magalong said that the “Bayanihan Spirit” is a distinct Filipino value observed normally but highlighted during times of calamities.

“The Police Cordillera extends their sympathies and prayers to the communities that are ravaged especially the families that lost their love ones,” Magalong said.

The accumulated donations from the policemen will be pooled with other donations from concerned government agencies, private groups and individuals from the cited region before being shipped to the calamity-stricken areas in Visayas and Mindanao for distribution to the affected families.

The country ranks third most disaster-prone country based on the World Disaster Report released in Brussels in October.
