Four-day raid yields P19-M weeds

CAMP BADO DANGWA, Benguet: Authorities have eradicated about P19,153,000 worth of marijuana (cannabis sativa) plants in a four-day operation in Benguet province.


Emely Fama, spokesman of the Philippine Drug Enforement Agency-Cordillera Administrative Region (PDEA-CAR) said, the yield was in form of of 90,910 full-grown cannabis, 11,250 cannabis seedlings and 40 kilos cannabis dried leaves.

These were destroyed in 31 different cultivation sites having an entire estimate land area of 1.37 hectares.

The anti-drug operation was carried out at sitios Ka-ang and Agay-ay, both in barangay Kayapa, Bakun, Benguet; and sitios Cawa, Pul-ag, Naptong and Proper of barangay Badeo and sitios Bagiw, Lingey and Napitak of barangay Tacadang, all in Kibungan, Benguet, on December 4 to 7.

Fama, identified the composite team involved in the operation as teams from the PDEA-CAR and Police Regional Office—Cordillera.

She said that after uprooting the illegal drugs, dialogues and consultations were undertaken and information on ill effects of cannabis use, legal implications of cannabis production and trading, participation of the community in the enforcement of the drug law and other related issues were disseminated by the drug busters to the barangay residents.
