TOP REBEL NABBED IN CAGAYAN VALLEY
POLICE intelligence operatives arrested on Friday in Cagayan province a top officer of the New People’s Army operating in Northern Luzon, police reports said on Saturday.

Chief Supt. Rodrigo de Gracia, Cagayan Valley regional police commander, in a report sent to Camp Crame, identified the arrested rebel as Rene Emondo Abiva. De Gracia said in the report that Abiva was apprehended by intelligence operatives at about 4:35 p.m. on Friday at Taft Street, Bagumbayan, Tuguegarao, Cagayan. The arrest was made base on a warrant of arrest for murder issued by a regional trial court in Ifugao, the police official said in the report. ANTHONY VARGAS
 
BENGUET ROAD MISHAP LEAVES 13 CASUALTIES
TWO persons were killed and eleven others were injured on Friday when a jeep full of passengers slammed onto a road pavement in Benguet province, police reports said on Saturday. Reports at the Philippine National Police operations center in Camp Crame said that the incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on Friday, on the main road along Manoey-as, Guinaong, Mankayan, Benguet. The reports identified the two fatalities as Emilio Bayanes, 50 and Melanie Manicawa Panganiban, 20—both from Benguet’s Mankayan town. Injured were Antonio Paydoen, 65; Albeto Guindayan, 43; Segundo Panganiban, 14; Isidro Agayao, 56; Johnny Domacyon, 49; Noemi Guindayan, 42; Medino Agalpao, 58; Violeta Mendez, 37; Lucillo Big-asan, 17; Adelina Salpad, 33; and Hilda Wag-e, 40. BATAAN POLICE HUNTS 17-YEAR-OLD KILLER
DINALUPIHAN, Bataan: Police on Saturday continued to hunt a 17-year-old boy who shot dead another teenager who was in the company of a group of other teenagers in barangay Roosevelt in Dinalupihan, Bataan on Thursday. P/Supt. Alfred dela Roca, Dinalupihan police chief, said that they have readied a case for murder against the suspect from Purok 5 in Roosevelt who escaped after shooting Ronnel Sotto, 16, of Purok I in barangay Tipo, Hermosa, Bataan. Sotto, a third year high school student, took a gunshot wound below his left nipple from a still unknown caliber of gun. ERNIE B. ESCONDE
