Low-pressure area goes, comes back to Mindanao

The low-pressure area (LPA) hovering near Mindanao went back on Wednesday, the state weather bureau said.

Weather Forecaster Samuel Duran said that as of 8 a.m. on Wednesday the LPA was located at 340 kilometers southeast of Davao City (5.0° N, 128.0° E) and has slim chance to intensify into tropical depression.

Duran said that the low pressure is embedded along the Inter-tropical Convergence Zone affecting Mindanao is expecting to bring moderate to occasional heavy rains (5.0-15.0 millimeter an hour) and thunderstorms in Mindanao, particularly in the regions of Davao and Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Saranggani and General Santos), which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

Residents in these areas are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures, he added.

Duran said that the agency is also on the look out over a cloud cluster, which is growing into an low pressure spotted at 1,500km east of Mindanao (5.0° N, 141.0 ° E) but he added that this weather disturbance is still too far to affect the country.

He explained that based on their models, the low pressure might intensify into a tropical depression and once it intensifies inside the Philippine territory, it will be named Bising.
