Jackson aides testify at trial, paramedics set to take stand

LOS ANGELES: Two paramedics who battled to save Michael Jackson’s life are among key witnesses taking the stand on Thursday (Friday in Manila), the third day of his doctor Conrad Murray’s long-awaited manslaughter trial.

A bodyguard who was among the first on the scene and the pop icon’s personal chef are also expected to testify in Los Angeles, where a string of grisly details have already emerged about Jackson’s demise two years ago.

On Wednesday, Jackson’s personal assistant and security chief recounted Murray’s “frantic” efforts to save the singer’s life while his children wept—and how the doctor suggested a cover-up minutes after he died.

The court also heard that Murray claimed repeatedly that the pop icon was in good health during the days and weeks before his death from an overdose of the powerful sedative propofol on June 25, 2009.

On Thursday, paramedics Richard Senneff and Martin Blount are expected to confirm that Jackson already appeared dead when they arrived at his rented mansion in the plush Holmby Hills district.

The pair, who rushed Jackson to hospital, will testify alongside bodyguard Alberto Alvarez, while the Los Angeles Superior Court will also hear evidence from chef Kai Chase, legal sources said.

Alvarez was already cited by Jackson’s security chief Faheem Muhammad, who recounted on Wednesday how he rushed upstairs to find a terrible scene: the singer apparently already dead, and a “frantic” Murray trying to revive him.

“Alberto said, ‘It’s not looking good,’” Muhammad told the court, also describing how two of Jackson’s three children collapsed in tears, standing in the bedroom doorway looking at their lifeless father.

“Paris was on the ground, balled up [and] crying, [while] Prince was standing there, and he just had a real shocked, you know, just slowly crying type of look on his face,” he recounted.

Another Jackson aide who also testified was personal assistant Michael Williams, who recalled his employer’s last “This Is It” rehearsal on the night of June 24.

The King of Pop was preparing to give a series of concerts, titled “This Is It,” when he died.

“He was in good spirits,” Williams said of Jackson that night, adding that he thought the superstar’s final appearance on stage was “ amazing.”

But things went wrong overnight, when Murray allegedly gave Jackson a series of drugs to help him sleep—the doctor’s lawyers claim the star secretly took more—before stepping out to use the bathroom and then coming back to find Jackson not breathing.

After Jackson was pronounced dead at the UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) hospital, Williams recounted what he called an “odd” conversation with Murray.

“I was in a hallway. We were making small talk about how horrible this is,” the personal assistant said.

Then, “he (Murray) said that there’s some cream in Michael’s room . . . that he wouldn’t want the world to know about. And he requested that I or someone give him a ride back to the house to get it,” added Williams, who refused the request.

Pre-trial hearings heard evidence that Murray asked for other medicine and equipment—reportedly including bottles of propofol—to be removed from the room before police arrived.
