AQUINO CALLS FOR STIFFER PENALTIES ON GUN-TOTING REVELERS

CAMPAIGN TRAIL

Benigno “Bam” Aquino, a senatoriable of the Liberal Party and a first-cousin of President Benigno Aquino 3rd, reinforced the call for stricter gun laws and stiffer penalties against violators

—especially for those who use their firearms as firecrackers during festive occasions.

The younger Aquino made this call after the New Year revelry claimed two young lives in Manila—a seven-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy—all because of stray bullets from gun-toting New Year’s revelers.

Aquino asked in Filipino.

According to reports released by Health Secretary Enrique Ona, “about half” of the New Year celebrations’ over 400 victims were children, mostly between 6 and 10 years old.
