ASG member nabbed in Taguig
A NOTORIOUS member of terrorist group Abu Sayyaf (ASG) wanted for a string of cases in Basilan province was nabbed by joint military and police operatives in an operation on Friday in Taguig City.
Senior Supt. Roberto Fajardo, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief, identified the arrested rebel member as Suhod Salasim alias Suhod.
Fajardo said that Salasim was nabbed at about 6:30 a.m. on Friday by joint CIDG and army intelligence operatives at an apartment in Tawi-Tawi Street, Maharlika Village in Taguig.
Two cartridges for 40mm M203 grenade launcher and an MK2 grenade were seized from Salasim, the police official said.
Salasim was nabbed on the basis of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Leo Principe of Branch 1 of the Regional Trial Court in Isabela City, Basilan, for kidnapping and illegal detention charges.
The said charges stemmed from Salasim’s involvement in the kidnapping and hostage taking of workers of Golden Harvest Plantation in Brgy. Tairan, Lantawan in June 2001.
The police official added that Salasim was also among the Abu Sayyaf members that abducted and held a 14-year-old boy and several others as hostages for four months in several towns of Basilan.
He was also responsible for the kidnapping of nurses in the infamous Lamitan Siege, where a group of rebel bandits took control of the Lamitan Dr. Torres Memorial Hospital in June 2001.
Salasim is involved in the kidnapping and illegal detention of teachers and students of Claret High School in Brgy. Tumahubong in Sumisip, Basilan and was formerly under the group of ASG commander Isnilon Hapilon.
