Skilled engineers and construction specialists in the Philippines will be hired by Hyder, a multinational design and engineering consultancy, at its recruitment fair at the Makati Shangri-la on Friday.

The hired engineers will have the opportunity to work on world-class projects, including the building of Qatar’s first metro system.

Hyder Consulting specializes in transport, utilities, property, energy and resources and environment sectors. It told The Manila Times that it is looking for up to 500 skilled engineers.

David Burgess, Hyder Consulting’s director in Manila said that the company’s Philippines Global Excellence Center currently employs some 270 people.

“The Philippines has an excellent reputation for developing highly skilled engineers and construction specialists. We have grown our presence in the country significantly over the last decade and are looking to do so again with a major recruitment drive at a time when unemployment, especially among engineering and skilled workers, is high,” he said.

“We have an exciting pipeline of projects that new recruits would be working on, such as the Jeddah municipality project, creating the new Doha Metro system and highway and mining projects in Australia. With a base at our headquarters in the Philippines, successful candidates will have the chance to work on a range of international projects.”

Hyder Consulting’s Group HR & Communications director Misti Melville, said: “At a time when much of the construction sector is still treading cautiously, we are embarking on a major international recruitment drive and see the Philippines as a vital part of this process. Historically, Hyder Consulting has worked on some of truly iconic projects, such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Burj Khalifa in Dubai—the world’s tallest building, and Tower Bridge in the United Kingdom; and we have a pipeline of projects over the coming years that match these.”

The Hyder recruitment fair starts at 8 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m. It will be at Shangri-la’s Quezon Ballroom.
