LIKE its Veyron sibling, there is nothing subtle with the Bugatti Galibier—not its styling, not its power, not its presence.
Bugatti President Wolfgang Durheimer has confirmed the Galibier will transcend its present concept form and reach production, with the car targeted to be released in 2012—which should be the year that the premier luxury-sedan as we know it will get redefined. After all, the Galibier is seen to be propelled by a W16 engine, similar to that which resides under the Veyron’s bulbous sheetmetal, but slightly detuned to make “only” 789 horsepower, maybe as much as 986 horses, depending on the variant. As such, Bugatti is saying the Galibier will be a more practical, real-world alternative to the Veyron, with the car’s sedan mold also ensuring ample seating for at least four people and the capacity to carry their luggage.
Bugatti adds it will build about 1,000 to 1,500 Galibiers a year, with the car likely to become the leader in its segment. Whether that could come true is arguable, but what’s certain is that the car won’t come cheap; it’s likely to cost at least $1.440 million.
