YOUNGHUSBANDS DEDICATE AZKALS’ WIN TO DECEASED PARENTS

BROTHERS Philip and James Younghusband dedicated the Azkals’ resounding 4-0, victory against the Nepalese team Tuesday night to their parents.

“Every game we play, we’re dedicating each goal we make to our beloved mother,” said the 24-year-old Phil, referring to his 49-year-old mother Susan, who passed away a month ago due to cancer. “Tonight is very special. We’re also inspired by the crowd.”

The father of the Younghusbands, Phil, also died of cancer eight years ago.

The Philippines stands 166th while Nepal is 135th in the ranking of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). While the match against Nepal is just a friendly game, the win has boosted the Azkals’ confidence in competing in the Asian Football Confederation’s Challenge Cup next year. The win will also improve the Azkals’ current FIFA ranking.

Azkals’ German mentor Hans Michael Weiss told reporters that the match against Nepal was the last friendly game the Azkals would play this year because the team will be preoccupied in honing the country’s Under-23 team for the 26th Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia in November.
