THE Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights routed the Arellano University Chiefs, 73-59, Wednesday in the 87th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) seniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
As expected, Kevin Alas, Jamieson Cortes and Mark Cruz led the Knights’ onslaught in the third quarter to secure their 8th win in 10 matches. Letran occupies the third spot closely trailing behind solo leader San Sebastian Stags (10-0) and defending titlist San Beda Red Cubs (9-1).
Rookie Cruz defied the tight guarding of John Karlo Casino to score two straight baskets igniting a 6-0 rally that widened their lead to a considerable 44-33, with still 5:04 remaining in the game.
With the setback, the Chiefs dropped to the 9th spot also occupied by the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals (both are bearing an identical 3-7 slate).
