A huge field of 4,000 participants is all set to see action in Del Monte Fit ‘N Right “Dare to be Fit ‘N Right” fun run on Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia grounds.
The event, which formally starts at 6 a.m., will feature 3-, 5- and 10-kilometer categories among race enthusiasts and will offer a total cash pot worth P300,000.
“It is going to be an exciting event. It is the objective of Del Monte to promote a healthy and fit lifestyle through this fun run,” said race director Ed Dames, who was accompanied by conditioning coach Jimbo Saret, during Friday’s SCOOP sa Kamyan Forum.
The one-day affair, sanctioned by the Philippine Track and Field Association, also goes high-tech with the use of radio frequency identification, or RFID, a technology developed by Unang Habang Technology Inc.
An RFID tag, which will be attached or integrated in the runner’s shoe or bib for purposes of identification and tracking using radio waves, will be used for faster and more accurate processing of results.
“What is so interesting about RFID is that as soon as a runner crosses the finish line, his or her result is automatically displayed on LCD screens,” Dames added.
A Lenovo laptop, race “shoeput” with singlet, race bib and Fit ‘N Right products will be given to all participants in the fun run backed by SM Mall of Asia, SM Hypermart, Asianic Fitness Firs, Gardenia, Lenovo, Manila Bulletin, Mitsubishi Runners Speak, Solar Sports, Tai Chi, Takbo.ph and Taste Asia.
Entry fee is pegged at P300, which will be donated to the victims of recent tropical storms assisted by the SM Foundation.
