WHEN it rains, it pours.
Apparently, it was so in the case of the government’s top adviser on the environment, Nereus “Neric” Acosta, who on Friday was named by Malacanang as an acting board member of the Laguna Lake Development Authority in the wake of the resignation of LLDA General Manager Rodrigo Cabrera.
Cabrera has resigned as LLDA chief and he will be replaced, according to Palace deputy spokesman Abigail Valte.
President Benigno Aquino 3rd “has signed the appointment letter of Secretary Neric Acosta, a former lawmaker representing Bukidnon province, as acting member of the board of directors of the Laguna Lake Development Authority,” she told a briefing also on Friday.
Valte said that Cabrera’s resignation was accepted by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. on August 17 and was effective on the same day.
Ochoa “did not say anything” on what could have been behind the resignation of the LLDA general manager.
President Aquino in late August appointed Acosta as his main adviser on environmental protection, citing the former congressman’s background and advocacy of environmental issues.
A member of the Liberal Party and said to be a close friend of the President, Acosta lost when he vied for a Senate seat in the 2010 elections.
