Lady Archers down Lady Eagles in UAAP volleyball

DE La Salle University beat Ateneo de Manila University, 26-28, 21-25, 25-13, 25-21,15-13, on Saturday in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women’s volleyball Season

Victoria Galang notched 14 kills plus three blocks and a serve to lead the Lady Archers to their sixth win against a lone loss. The Lady Eagles absorbed their first loss in seven games.

Ateneo initially fought impressively with spikers Angeline Gervacio and Alyssa Valdez dictating the tempo of the game allowing the Lady Eagles to win the first set 28-26.

Gervacio got a service point for a 27-26 lead before Valdez closed out the first set with an emphatic kill at the net.

La Salle struggled in their defense in the second set as Ateneo sustained its impressive assault to dominate the second set 25-21.

But the Lady Archers, led by Galang and last year’s MVP Abigael Marano came back strong in third and fourth set to force a deciding fifth set.

La Salle then took a commanding 12-8 lead in the fifth set en route to victory.

In the first match, National University crushed University of the Philippines (UP) 25-16, 25-14, 25-18, to claim its fourth win in seven games. The UP Lady Fighting Maroons absorbed their sixth loss in seven outings to stay at the bottom of the standings.
