A new book by Punong Lakan Garitony Nicolas titled 100 Filipino Martial Artists, features 100 top practitioners of arnis (also known as escrima or kali), the Philippines’ national martial art and sport.
Sen. Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, the author of Republic Act 9850, the Arnis Law is included in the book.
Zubiri is an arnis expert and a former sport arnis champion in real life. Although most people see arnis as merely stick fighting, it is in reality a complete martial art that employs impact weapons, bladed weapons and empty hands.
A formal launching of the book is scheduled on January 19, Saturday, 5 to 7 p.m. at Central Books 927 Phoenix Building, Quezon Avenue, Quezon City. The program includes book signing of the author as well as demonstrations of selected arnis masters.
