The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), through its chairman, Prof. Felipe Mendoza de Leon, Jr., launched the commemorative stamp in honor of National Artist Carlos “Botong”
Francisco on November 9 at the NCCA Leandro Locsin Auditorium. This is done in celebration of his 100th birth centennial on November 4.
This is through Proclamation 284, which was signed by President Benigno S. Aquino III declaring November 4, 2012 to November 3, 2013 as the Centennial Year of National Artist for Painting Carlos “Botong” Francisco.
Also, the House of Representatives has issued House Joint Resolution 26 which was introduced by representatives House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., Neptali Gonzalez 2nd, Edcel Lagman, Salvador Escudero 3rd, and Ma. Jocelyn Bernos.
The event was attended by De Leon along with NCCA Exec. Director Emelita Almosara, Philpost executives, National Artist’s Francisco’s relatives, Mayor Gerry Calderon of Angono, Rizal, his supporters and friends.
The program also launched the 40-painting traveling exhibit in honor of the Francisco and Maestro Lucio San Pedro, National Artist for Music, who will be celebrating his centennial birthday on February 11, 2013.
