Over 2,000 runners joined Haribon Foundation’s the Million Hectare Challenge (MHC) 2012 last November 25 at Liwasang Ullalim, Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex in Pasay City.
Haribon Foundation celebrated their 40th foundation anniversary with the Million Hectare Challenge Fun Run 2012, the foundation’s run-for-a-cause annual event, aimed to promote Haribon’s ROAD (Rainforestation Organizations and Advocates) to 2020 Program.
Health enthusiasts, environmental advocates and like-minded individuals gathered to support the planting of native trees, hence the theme “Run and Go Native!” Native trees are very much adaptable to our country’s soil and climate, and they serve as natural habitat to the Philippines’ indigenous wildlife.
For every runner, one native tree is assured of the much needed nurturing in order for it to grow well and contribute to the restoration of our rainforests—and ultimately, our future.
Hosted by RX 93.1 DJ Tom “Dr. Love” Alvarez, the participants were welcomed by Haribon Ambassadors for Conservation Suzi and Paolo Abrera. Stauro Punongbayan of Coach & Kids led the warm up exercises for 500meters, 3k, 5k, and 10k runners. AirDance, PUP Cheering Squad, Where’s the Sheep, and Carissa provided entertainment after the run.
