Champion of sparkling presentations

Dr.Cecilio Pedro

Regardless of your field, giving excellent presentations is an essential task at work. Aside from excellent content, how you present also matters. Presenters tend to overlook that delivery is key in presentations, and that it greatly helps to get one’s message across to the audience.

Presentations must sparkle, Dr. Cecilio Pedro instructs us.

Having presented to a wide variety of audiences, Lamoiyan Corp. President and CEO Dr.Cecilio Pedro is one who is constantly in front of people. A prominent figure in the oral care industry, Dr. Pedro is not only known for creating Hapee toothpaste, the Filipino brand that is giving the toothpaste brands of the transnational companies such a good fight that their marketing managers are worried that Hapee might continue to nibble at their hegemony.

The foreign brands controlled 90 percent of the market before Hapee appeared. Now they only control 65 percent.

In addition, he is also a notable advocate of assisting the hearing-impaired.

In giving presentations, Dr. Pedro tells us, we should keep the acronym Hapee in mind. It just happens to be his toothpaste brand.

H-and gesture. Use your hands to emphasize points. Don’t stand still like a statue. Movement can relieve you of nervousness. It makes your presentation appear livelier.

A-void inappropriate sounds (e.g. “Uhm…”). Oftentimes, we are unaware of what we do when we are thinking of what to say next. During those moments, try to refrain from saying “Uhm” and “Ah…ah…ah” and try doing a more subtle action such as touching your chin like the famous statue by Rodin, The Thinker.

P-ractice and prepare. At the heart of everything we do, Dr. Pedro firmly believes that we should do it for the glory of God. Furthermore, like the adage that leaders are made and not born, so is a great presenter. It won’t hurt to practice and prepare beforehand.

E-ye contact. Connect with your audience and don’t just read your slides. Eye contact allows you to maintain the attention of your audience and projects that you are confident in everything you are saying.

E-xude confidence. Being confident in your presentation can make a difference. Would you believe a presenter who seems unsure of what he says? Of course not. Try to exude confidence by standing straight, facing your audience and smiling from time to time.

Great presentations are even easier to attain when you have a terrific smile, together with healthy teeth and fresh breath. So he ends with words that promote his own product: Remember HAPEE, and use Hapee Toothpaste, which provides Maximum Fluoride Protection—giving you that healthy smile and long-lasting fresh breath whenever you present.
