Philam Life leverages on VMware virtualization

The Philippine American Life and General Insurance Company (Philam Life), the largest life insurance company in the Philippines and the market leader for over 60 years, said that companies must leverage on virtualization to gain a competitive advantage.

In an interview, Romy Cambaliza, chief information officer of Philam Life said that tangible results were realized by Philam Life from its VMware virtualization implementation.

“By virtualizing our datacentre infrastructure on VMware vSphere, Philam Life has been able to achieve a lower total cost of ownership by minimizing unnecessary IT infrastructure investments, and benefit from a more cost-effective, self-managed, dynamically optimized environment for the most efficient delivery of IT services,” said Cambaliza.” With full control over the availability, reliability, scalability, and security over our IT infrastructure, we are also more responsive to the needs of the business.”

Philam Life is part of the AIA Group Limited, the largest independent publicly listed pan-Asian life insurance group in the world.

“Each organization’s IT and business requirements are different and there is no one-cloud-fits-all approach,” said Jon Robertson, General Manager, VMware in ASEAN. “Virtualization is the technical foundation for cloud computing, and customers are leveraging our industry-leading products like VMware vSphere to transform their datacenters into simplified cloud computing infrastructures. VMware is on a mission to simplify and automate IT management in the cloud era and enable customers to deliver IT as a Service, and this has seen us successfully expand our footprint across Southeast Asia.”

“We continue to see strong demand for our robust virtualization platform in Philippines, particularly in the BPO, healthcare, financial and government sectors industries,” said Nicholas Tan, head of field sales for VMware in Philippines. “Most VMware customers start with a desire to increase server efficiency and reduce capital expenses by virtualizing low risk workloads. As more of their datacenters are virtualized, customers can realize more value by implementing management and policy-driven automation. The resulting quality of service improvements accelerate transformation to an agile cloud computing model, which allows customers to accelerate their IT so that in turn, they can accelerate their business.”

VMware, the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, announced financial results for the third quarter of 2012 last week. Revenues for the third quarter were $1.13 billion, an increase of 20 percent from the third quarter of 2011, and 22 percent measured in constant currency. Operating income for the third quarter was $190 million, an increase of 5 percent from the third quarter of 2011. Non-GAAP operating income for the third quarter was $365 million, an increase of 28 percent from the third quarter of 2011.
