The world’s largest consumer technology trade show, the 2013 International CES, started Tuesday in Las Vegas, the US state of Nevada, unveiling more than 20,000 latest products from the consumer electronics industry.
More than 3,250 exhibitors attended this year’s show, with the exhibition space exceeding 1.9 million net square feet (about 176, 520 square meters), both records high, according to the organizer of the show, the U.S. Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)
“CES has an incredible story to tell with every major technology company spanning the globe participating in this year’s CES to showcase their innovations,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the CEA.
The show’s technology elite attendees included Paul Jacobs, the chief executive officer of Qualcomm, the largest supplier of chips of smartphones, who delivered the preshow keynote speech Monday evening to highlight the company’s mobile roots, and Microsoft President and CEO Steve Ballmer, who joined the Qualcomm CEO on stage to demonstrate Microsoft Windows products.
Products exhibited at this year’s show reflect trends including cloud-based services, gesture and sensing technologies, connected vehicles, the latest smartphone and tablet innovations and Ultra HDTV.
This year’s CES, which also attracts eight automakers, including Audi, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, will run through Friday.
