Indian businessman, helper hurt in slay try


SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union: A computer repair shop owner and his helper were hurt when a lone gunman shot them at close range in front of his establishment in Purok I, Sevilla Center on Friday night. Police Senior Inspector Maila Alog identified the victims as Lal Mirchandani, 46, an Indian who owns the SMK Computer Sales and Services, and residing in Catbangen village. He sustained four gunshot wounds in the chest and arms, and is recuperating at the Ilocos Training Regional Medical Center. Mirchandani’s helper, Roger Calderon, 46, residing in Banbanay Village, San Juan, La Union, suffered a gunshot wound in his lower abdomen and was treated at the same hospital. Investigation revealed they were about to close the shop at 7:30 p.m. when the gunman, masked with a piece of cloth, approached them and began shooting. The employees of the shop chased the gunman but sped away onboard a Toyota Fortuner.
