Hybrid Yaw-Yan will treat local fight fans to its 14th offering of Balikatan mixed martial arts (MMA) tournament titled Heart of a Warrior on January 30 at the Trevi Executive Village in Barangay Concepcion Uno, Marikina City.
The main event will be the match between Filipina fighter Christina Conrado of AJJ Gym and Indian Harpreet Kaur of Budo Kai Do MMA.
“Sabi ng coach ko may potential daw ako kaya noong sinabi sa akin na may babae na maglalaro, nag-decide na ako na sumali. Dahil nasa martial arts na rin tayo kaya pinasok ko na rin siya [My coach told me that I have potentials playing MMA. That’s why when I was invited to compete, I didn’t hesitate to join since I am already practicing martial arts,” said the 28-year old Conrado, a Muay Thai stylist.
The co-main event is also a battle of female fighters featuring Sahara Hamayon of Oman Muscat MMA Club and Teddy Marie Dela Cruz of Spartacus Fitness Gym.
The 25-year old Hamayon practices both Muay Thai and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
“I will use my best skills and combine them. I know God is there for me, and I leave it up to God. He give me strength and provide me everything in a way I need to give my best for it,” Hamayon told The Manila Times.
After the fight, Hamayon intends to represent the country in future MMA tournaments.
Another interesting match will be the middleweight duel between team Iran fighter Ehsan Mousaei and Indian Gagandeep Sharma of Budo Kai Do MMA Federation of India.
“He plays karate. I should be little close to him because he will kick me. But if he kick me, I will punch him and get his legs,” said the 30-year old Mousaei, who competes in wrestling in the Philippines and abroad. He already bagged several medals – 10 of which are gold.
“I want to try a little hard, little different that is why I enter MMA,” Mousei said.
