INDIANs’ Carrasco barely misses no-hitter

ST. PETERSBURG, United States: Cleveland Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco was one strike from a no-hitter before his historic bid was foiled on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila) in an 8-1 Major League Baseball victory over Tampa Bay. The 28-year-old Venezuelan right-hander settled for a one-hit triumph after tossing 8 2/3 hitless innings and taking Joey Butler to his final strike before the Rays’ left-fielder lofted a single over Cleveland second baseman Jason Kipnis. Carrasco exited after a career-high 124 pitches to a standing ovation in the opposing ballpark. He struck out 13 batters and walked only two.
