Inmate injured as gangs clash in Pasay jail

Two rival gangs inside the Pasay City Jail clashed on Saturday, sparking a riot that left one inmate injured.

Pasay Police Chief Sr. Supt. Florencio Ortilla said the riot erupted when members of the “Sigue Sigue” and “Sputnik” gangs clashed over a woman.

He said an inmate, identified as Roberto Roque, was brought to the Pasay City General Hospital after sustaining injuries.

A certain “Joms” who witnessed the fight said the woman went to the jail to visit an inmate, but her husband, who is also an inmate, saw her.

When the woman was about to leave the jail, the two men, who belong to different gangs, had an argument.

They came to blows and soon there was a melee as other gang members joined the fight.

Ortilla said the incident is being investigated by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
