MEMBERS of Sige-Sige Sputnik Gang on Thursday started a noise barrage inside the Manila City Jail to air their grievances against jail warden Lyndon Torres’ administration in the prison cell.
At noontime, Sputnik members went on top of the prison’s roof carrying streamers, metal pipes, and wood blocks and planks and started hammering the prison roof to call the attention of the media and mayor-elect Joseph “Erap” Estrada of Manila. According to the group, inmates can no longer tolerate what warden Torres has been doing inside the prison.
“[Oust warden since we often get a beating] Patalsikin si warden dahil lagi kaming may ‘takal,’” the inmates cried during the noise barrage.
“[You who are from media, say that we no longer want the warden. Call on Mayor Erap, we want to have an audience with him] Kayong mga taga-media, sabihin nyo ayaw na namin kay warden. Tawagin nyo din si Mayor Erap, siya ang gusto naming makausap,” one of the gang leaders said over the microphone.
Sources, whose relatives are inside the prison, said that the inmates can no longer take the everyday beating they get inside the city jail.
