A group of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels robbed a Dole delivery truck of bananas in a remote village in Surigao del Sur, police reported on Tuesday.
Reports at the Philippine National Police operations center in Camp Crame said that the robbery happened at around 8:40 a.m. on Monday at Sitio Abihaw, Brgy. Bitaugan West in Cagwait town.
A Dole delivery truck (LWU-310) was passing at the said area when it was flagged down by a group of armed men led by an NPA leader known as “Mark,” reports said.
The rebels reportedly belong to NPA Front Committee (FC) 19B which is known to operate in Caraga area and have attacked in the past several multinational companies.
The reports said that the delivery truck, which came from Tago town bound for Davao City, was carrying 1,562 boxes of export-quality bananas when it was flagged down by rebels.
The rebels then started unloading some boxes of bananas before firing their weapons and hitting the truck’s rear wheels and its generator set before escaping towards the mountain, reports said.
The reports added that responding policemen recovered four empty shells and one live ammunition for AK 47 rifle.
