Germany’s Deutschland 83 took home the trophy for Best Drama; Britain’s Hoff the Record for Best Comedy; and Telemundo’s Francisco, El Jesuita for US Non-English Primetime Program at the 44th International Emmy Awards in New York on Monday night (Tuesday morning in Manila).
The Philippines’ Jodi Sta. Maria, meanwhile dazzled on the red carpet, and brought pride to the country as a nominee for Best Performance By An Actress for her role as Amor Powers in the ABS-CBN drama Pangako Sa ‘Yo.
Sta. Maria was thrilled to be in the company of fellow nominees including Dame Judi Dench for Roald Dahl’s Esio Trot and Christiane Paul of Germany for Unterm Radar, who went home with the award, among others.
Bridges Of Love, starring Jericho Rosales, Paulo Avelino and Maja Salvador, was also nominated in the Best Telenovela category, which went to Verdades Secretas (Hidden Truths) of Brazil.
Meanwhile, veteran American thespian Dustin Hoffman snagged the Best Performance By An Actor award for playing Mr. Hoppy in BBC’s Roald Dahl’s Esio Trot, an adaptation of the Dahl novel. Hoffman was not present to accept his award.
