THE best conclusion any of the investigations into the February 2016 Bangladesh Bank heist have been able to offer so far is that it was “probably” the work of Lazarus, a hacking collective that is described as more or less being North Korea’s official cybercrime unit. Lazarus is suspected of having been behind the Sony hack in November 2014 and the WannaCry ransomware attacks in May of last year, as well as a number of cyberattacks against systems in South Korea and elsewhere.
